The Orange County commissioners will vote on a site for a waste transfer station Monday. The board has recently focused on the Paydarfar site, a previously ignored county-owned parcel on Millhouse Road. Pursuing the site violates the selection criteria the commissioners designed; disregards extensive public input; and ignores the racial and socio-economic disparate impacts of this site.
The waste transfer station site-selection process began in December 2007. At that time, the commissioners stated their commitment to “meaningful public participation.” After substantial community input, detailed criteria were developed to evaluate potential sites. The Paydarfar property failed to meet even the basic criteria. (read the full story)
